Tips to Deal with Social Media Anxiety

Here’s the truth social media can be a double-edged sword. While it offers opportunities for connection and self-expression, it can also lead to anxiety and stress. That stress often leads to procrastination and avoidance. The story we tell ourselves holds us back from our goals.

Here are some tips to manage social media anxiety:

  1. Limit Screen Time: Set boundaries for how much time you spend on social media. Use apps or built-in features to monitor and limit your usage.

  2. Curate Your Feed: Follow accounts that inspire and uplift you. Unfollow or mute accounts that trigger negative emotions.

  3. Practice Mindfulness: Be mindful of how social media affects your mood. Take breaks when needed and engage in activities that promote relaxation and well-being.

  4. Engage Authentically: Focus on genuine interactions rather than seeking validation through likes and comments.

  5. Seek Support: If social media anxiety becomes overwhelming, don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional.

How to get started:

You don’t have to start all the suggestions at once. If you do, you’ll end up creating more stress for you and there won’t be any follow through.

Do one at a time. Do it 2 times a week, then 3 xs, and so on. Slowly build your mastery. Then do another one.

When you slowly add new skills, you have a higher chance of building your confidence and decreasing your anxiety.
